広島大学文学部史学科（東洋史学専攻）に学んで以来、学問領域・方法論としては「歴史学」、対象地域としては「中国」を中心とする「アジア」地域と定めてきたが、大学院での学修や調査・研究活動を通して、これに「地域研究」「国際社会論」「アジア教育史」、大学教育研究センター（現高等教育研究開発センター）で助手として奉職する中で、さらに「高等教育論」が加わった。



そして、その後、本学広島国際大学での教学活動、とりわけ健康・医療・福祉方面の専門職人材育成に関わる日々の中に、「医学・医療」の「歴史」とその本質に向けたアプローチの必要と、若い世代への伝達の重要性を実感し、今日に至っている。そこでの教育のbaseとなる認識は、至極当然のことではあるが、人間の「肉体」と「心」は切り離して考え得るモノではなく、そして人間は一人で生きていける生き物ではない、ということである。そして、今日の医療領域における専門職連携やIPEのように、学問領域においても、「複雑系」化した現実に応ずべく、「科学」の名の下の細分化（例えば「病理学」「精神病理学」「社会病理学」など）された学問領域の“再統合”、相互連携的な協力が求められている、と考えている。



いずれにしても、人間は「複雑」であり、「人間の探求」において、答えを急ぐことは極めて危険である。成果主義の追求は、かえって人の目を曇らせ、人を、求められる「本質的な探求」から遠ざけることに繋がりかねない。そう危惧するばかりである。

 　私は言語聴覚士として経験を積んできました。臨床では自宅に戻った失語症を含む高次脳機能障害の人たちが復職し就労を継続することの困難さや地域の中でつながっていくことのハードルの高さを感じました。病気の後遺症としてコミュニケーション障害が残存する人たちへの支援と彼らを受け入れる企業や地域へ働きかけるための研究を遂行しています。



　また高次脳機能障害の人たちの「参加」の場を創出できるよう地域づくりにも取り組んでいます。
