本研究室では、セレノネインが、強力なラジカルスカベンジャーであることから、天然物由来の水溶性抗酸化物質として健康食品製造や食品加工に利用可能です。セレノネインは、マグロ類、サバ類などの魚介類に高含有することから、セレノネイン含量を測定してデータベース化に取り組み、缶詰、レトルト食品など様々な形態の食品を開発し、商品化を目指します。さらに、セレノネイン濃縮物を用いて抗加齢、抗メタボリックシンドローム効果をもつ特定保健用機能食品を開発いたします。また、酸化ストレスを伴うアポトーシス誘導シグナル伝達経路の研究を遂行しています。とくに、抗酸化物質セレノネインに伴う生存シグナル経路に注目しております。

現在の研究は「災害カウンセリング」を中心に行っております。阪神淡路大震災、東日本大震災、西日本豪雨、そしてロシアのウクライナ侵攻、いまだに解決や回復ができていない方が溢れています。そのような人たちに長期に関わり、そのかかわりの中から個別にかかわっていくことの大切さを教えられました。
そして人を支援するにはまず自らの健康を維持していくことの大切さに気づかされ、次の3点を10年以上実行しております。①睡眠の固定(大人は7時間、子どもは8時間以上)②軽い運動(毎日)③アルコールを控える(子供は甘い炭酸飲料やジャンクフードを控える)です。
