本研究室では、セレノネインが、強力なラジカルスカベンジャーであることから、天然物由来の水溶性抗酸化物質として健康食品製造や食品加工に利用可能です。セレノネインは、マグロ類、サバ類などの魚介類に高含有することから、セレノネイン含量を測定してデータベース化に取り組み、缶詰、レトルト食品など様々な形態の食品を開発し、商品化を目指します。さらに、セレノネイン濃縮物を用いて抗加齢、抗メタボリックシンドローム効果をもつ特定保健用機能食品を開発いたします。また、酸化ストレスを伴うアポトーシス誘導シグナル伝達経路の研究を遂行しています。とくに、抗酸化物質セレノネインに伴う生存シグナル経路に注目しております。

現在の研究は「災害カウンセリング」を中心に行っております。阪神淡路大震災、東日本大震災、西日本豪雨、そしてロシアのウクライナ侵攻、いまだに解決や回復ができていない方が溢れています。そのような人たちに長期に関わり、そのかかわりの中から個別にかかわっていくことの大切さを教えられました。
そして人を支援するにはまず自らの健康を維持していくことの大切さに気づかされ、次の3点を10年以上実行しております。①睡眠の固定(大人は7時間、子どもは8時間以上)②軽い運動(毎日)③アルコールを控える(子供は甘い炭酸飲料やジャンクフードを控える)です。

広島大学文学部史学科(東洋史学専攻)に学んで以来、学問領域・方法論としては「歴史学」、対象地域としては「中国」を中心とする「アジア」地域と定めてきたが、大学院での学修や調査・研究活動を通して、これに「地域研究」「国際社会論」「アジア教育史」、大学教育研究センター(現高等教育研究開発センター)で助手として奉職する中で、さらに「高等教育論」が加わった。
そして、その後、本学広島国際大学での教学活動、とりわけ健康・医療・福祉方面の専門職人材育成に関わる日々の中に、「医学・医療」の「歴史」とその本質に向けたアプローチの必要と、若い世代への伝達の重要性を実感し、今日に至っている。そこでの教育のbaseとなる認識は、至極当然のことではあるが、人間の「肉体」と「心」は切り離して考え得るモノではなく、そして人間は一人で生きていける生き物ではない、ということである。そして、今日の医療領域における専門職連携やIPEのように、学問領域においても、「複雑系」化した現実に応ずべく、「科学」の名の下の細分化(例えば「病理学」「精神病理学」「社会病理学」など)された学問領域の“再統合”、相互連携的な協力が求められている、と考えている。
いずれにしても、人間は「複雑」であり、「人間の探求」において、答えを急ぐことは極めて危険である。成果主義の追求は、かえって人の目を曇らせ、人を、求められる「本質的な探求」から遠ざけることに繋がりかねない。そう危惧するばかりである。
